What Is Travel Insurance?
Many people want to travel without any trouble. Agreed? When you plan your trip in the best way possible, it’s easier and less stressful. This is because something unexpected could happen at any time during the trip and change all your plans. If the truth be known, these bad things may affect travellers not only emotionally and physically, but also financially. So, the best way for frequent travellers like you to stay safe while travelling to your favourite places is to buy travel insurance ahead of time.
Imagine that you’re about to go on a fun holiday. You have your travel visa, your plane tickets, your hotel reservations, and everything else you need. When you get to your destination, you find that your bags have been lost. Or, even worse, you get robbed and are left in a different country without your passport or money. Dealing with these problems can be expensive and hard, especially if you’re in a country where you don’t speak the language. But that’s exactly why it’s so important to have travel insurance!
Travel insurance is a unique product that can help you out financially if something goes wrong while you’re away. It covers a wide range of situations, such as medical or dental emergencies, having your money stolen or losing your passport, having your flight cancelled, or having your luggage get lost or misplaced.
You can choose a travel insurance plan that best fits your needs based on where you’re going, why you’re going, and how often you travel. A single-trip travel insurance plan is best if you only travel once in a while, either domestically or internationally. You can buy a single-trip travel insurance plan for yourself or for your whole family. For more information, check out our family travel insurance. If you travel a lot for work, you might want to choose a plan that covers more than one trip or one that covers the whole year. This way, you won’t have to go through the trouble of getting new travel insurance before each trip. We also have travel insurance plans that are made to fit the needs of seniors and students who are going abroad to continue their education. We’ll find you a travel insurance plan that fits your needs, no matter where you’re going.
FEATURES OF TRAVEL INSURANCE
How It Covers Covid-19
Accident & Sickness Medical Expense Under the Accident & Sickness Medical Expense coverage, Travel insurance with COVID-19 covered pays for the insured person’s medical bills if they get COVID-19 outside of the Republic of India and are hospitalised while on their trip. The policy covers medical costs up to the maximum amount listed in the policy schedule.
Trip Cancellation If the insured, the insured’s travel companion, or a member of the immediate family of the insured or the insured’s travel companion is diagnosed with COVID-19 before he or she leaves on an international trip, the Trip Cancellation benefit pays out. We’ll give you back the unused, non-refundable portion of your previous bookings, like the cost of a hotel room or a plane ticket. You could only get these benefits if you scheduled and paid for these services before you were diagnosed with COVID-19.
Benefits for cutting or stopping a trip If you have Travel insurance that covers COVID-19 and you, your travel companion, a member of your immediate family, or a member of your travel companion’s immediate family gets COVID-19 while you are travelling and your trip has to be cut short because of it, we will pay for the costs of the trip being cut short. Included in these costs will be the pre-paid and unused portion of travel and accommodation costs, which are non-refundable, as well as any extra travel and accommodation costs caused by the trip being cut short, up to the sum insured limit.
Automatically get longer If there is a lockdown in the destination country and there is no other way to get there, the travel insurance policy is automatically extended for 7 days. Conditions and terms apply.
Baggage covers
It can be scary to find yourself somewhere without your personal belongings. With these covers, we make it easier to deal with:
Delayed Baggage Almost everyone has a story about a time when they were travelling and their bags got lost or were held up for no reason. If this happens, you can rest easy if you have our travel insurance. Your travel insurance plan will help pay for any personal items you need to buy until your bag gets to you but can’t fit in it.
Lost Baggage Having your luggage arrive late is one thing, but if it gets lost or stolen, it can be very hard to deal with. Our travel insurance can help you deal with this problem. Depending on the terms of your travel insurance, we will help you get money back for the things in your luggage.
Journey Covers
If your flight is late or gets cancelled, it could mess up your plans. We can’t get back the time you lost, but these covers will help you make up for the money you lost.
Lost Passport It’s not always easy to get a new passport in a different country. Your international travel insurance policy will help you pay for the reasonable and necessary costs of getting a new passport.
Help while on the road If something goes wrong while you’re away from the city, you may need help. Our travel insurance plan will help you get all the help you need, from legal help to new luggage and passports if you lose them. Even emergency travel services, cash transfers, and cash advances are covered by our travel policy.
Personal Liability Accidents can happen at any time under any circumstance. If you get into an accident in which someone else is hurt or killed, it could cost you a lot of money. Our travel insurance will help pay for any harm you do to a third party or their property while you’re away. It’s important to remember that your family and people who live with you are not covered by the travel policy.
Hijack Help If the plane you’re on gets taken over, our travel insurance will give you something called a “distress allowance.”
Flights with Delays Your flight could be delayed by more than 12 hours because of bad weather or a strike in the area. If this happens, you might need to book another night at a hotel or pay for other extra costs. If your flight gets delayed, our travel insurance policy will help you pay for these costs.
Policy Changes The length of your trip often affects how long your travel insurance policy lasts. But in some situations, your flight could be cancelled or delayed for several days. If your flight is cancelled or delayed and you have no other way to get where you need to go, our travel insurance will automatically cover you for an extra seven days.
Stopping or shortening a trip Don’t worry if something comes up and you have to go back or cancel your whole trip. Our travel insurance plan will pay you back for any non-refundable hotel and travel costs that you didn’t use but can’t get back.
Medical Covers
We can’t think of anything worse than getting sick on holiday and having to go to the hospital. Our travel insurance plans include medical coverage for international travel, which is why they are also called “Travel Medical Insurance.” This is because they cover a lot of medical costs, including COVID-19*.
Medical Emergencies If you get sick or hurt while you’re travelling, or if you have an accident, your travel insurance policy will help you pay for the costs. The policy will cover anything from a common illness that needs to be treated in the hospital to a dental emergency and even death. If you get sick or have an accident near the end of your trip, you don’t need to worry. If your policy ends while you’re in the hospital, we’ll cover you for the next 60 days or until you get out, whichever comes first.
Medical Evacuation Your travel insurance plan is there for you when you need it. If you need to be taken to the nearest hospital because of a medical emergency, this policy will take care of that. The travel insurance policy will also take care of you if you need to be evacuated and brought back to India for medical care.
Accidental death and sending the body back Even though we don’t want to think about it, an accident or medical emergency abroad could be fatal. If this happens, TATA AIG’s travel insurance policy will pay the full sum insured amount to the person you choose. We will also pay for getting the insured person’s body back to their home city.
Compassionate Visit If you need help while you’re in the hospital, we’ll give a family member a round-trip ticket so they can come take care of you.
Study Interrupted This is especially for you if you bought a student travel insurance policy. If you have to stop going to school because you or a family member is sick, we’ll give you back any tuition you didn’t use.
*Please read the policy wordings to fully understand what the product includes and what it doesn’t.
When, Where And How To Choose Travel Insurance?
Buying travel insurance is a big decision that needs a lot of thought. To help you decide, here are a few important things you should think about before buying travel insurance:
- destination
Your insurance policy will depend a lot on where you are going. First, you have to decide if you’re going abroad or just across the country. Using this information, you can narrow down your choices. If you’re going to be travelling internationally, it’s important to find out what kind of travel insurance each country requires. For example, some countries won’t give you a travel visa unless you can prove that your travel insurance covers enough. - Travel Frequency
How often you plan to travel will determine what kind of travel insurance you buy. If you travel a lot, you might want to get a plan that covers more than one trip. With these plans, you can go on more than one trip without having to get new travel insurance each time. On the other hand, if you only travel once in a while, you might be better off with a single trip travel insurance policy. You can easily get travel insurance online, and you don’t have to go through a check-up before the policy starts. - How Long the Trip Will Last
When choosing a travel insurance plan, you should think about how long your trip will be. It’s a good idea to choose a travel insurance policy with a length of time that is just a little bit longer than your actual trip. You should be able to find a plan that covers you for more days without making your premium more expensive. This way, if you have to add a few days to your trip, you won’t risk losing your insurance. - People who travel
If you’re travelling by yourself, you can buy travel insurance just for yourself and not have to worry about anyone else. If you’re travelling with your family, you should add each person to your insurance policy. Before you buy the policy, let us know how many of you are going, and we’ll take care of the rest. This makes it much easier for you to keep track of everyone’s paperwork. - Claim Limit
This could be one of the most important things that affects your choice. Every policy has a limit on how much they will pay for different claims. For example, if your bags are lost or stolen, you will get a certain amount. Even if you need medical help right away, you must remember your sum insured and claim limit. If your claim limit is low, it might not cover all kinds of medical emergencies while you’re travelling. You should choose a good sum insured for your travel insurance policy based on where you’re going and how long you’ll be gone. A higher sum insured will mean a higher premium, but it will help if you need to make a claim while you’re travelling.
Benefits of Travel Insurance
No matter where you’re going, you need travel insurance. Travel insurance makes everything so easy and organised that everyone who travels should get it right away. It pays for unexpected medical costs and protects you in case your flight is late or you have to cancel your trip. Also, travel insurance plans cover the loss of checked bags and passports, which gives the traveller peace of mind. It’s important to look over the plan details and see what benefits the travel insurance plan you’re buying gives you.
